Houston’s co-ed tennis team had a strong showing against the all-male team from Willow Springs before rain ended the match prematurely.

HHS earned two singles victories –– 8-6 by Eli Todd and 8-6 from Olivia Woosley –– and led one doubles match last Thursday when inclement weather arrived.

“This collectively is the best we have played as a singles unit,” Houston coach John Jordan said. “Willow Springs will be the favorite to win the team district title, and our kids played well against them. I was very proud of them.”

Sarah Kelley narrowly lost her singles match 8-6. Lucas Kelley was defeated 8-4 and Maya Brown and Lizzy Swindell both lost 8-2.

The doubles team of Sarah and Lucas Kelly were ahead when the match was called.

Two days earlier at Rolla, Houston swept three doubles matches in a 6-3 loss at Rolla.

Sarah Kelley and Lucas Kelley teamed up for an 8-6 victory. Todd and Brown won 9-8 (4) and Swindell and Woosley were victorious 9-8 (5).

Houston lost all six singles matches.

JUNIOR VARSITY: Kayla Shriver and Sammy Garrett lost 7-6 (4) in last Thursday’s doubles match at Willow Springs. Camyrn Scheets and Chandra Hubbs were defeated 6-1.

Sammy Garrett and Lucas Kelley had a 6-2 doubles victory last Tuesday for the JV’s lone win at Rolla.
