The University of Missouri Extension will conduct a beekeeping class April 28 and 29 at its Texas County office on U.S. 63.
The course will runs 5:30-8:30 p.m. Registration is $85 and includes a class book and resource manual.
Extension experts say now is the time to think about keeping bees this year and that beekeeping requires advanced planning, education and preparation. Most people come to the class interested in bees, want to learn how bees fit into the world, and to learn what it takes to be a beekeeper.
Everyone is welcome, including people new to honey bees or looking to start a new hobby, as well as experienced beekeepers looking to update and refine their knowledge.
MU Extension offers beekeeping classes to help build a network of beekeepers that continue to grow and learn about the importance of beekeeping, to teach the importance of bees to our community and to help those interested in knowing more about beekeeping learn to help support honey bees. Participants will learn about equipment, sources of bees and how and when to start hives.
Pre-registration for the class is required by April 23. Registration is available at the Texas County Extension office at 417-967-4545. Questions may be directed to Amy Patillo, Ed.D., at patilloa@missouri.edu.
