Two brush trucks and five personnel from the Houston Rural Fire Association responded Thursday afternoon at about 1:45 p.m. to a fire in a wooded area behind Northside Baptist Church on U.S. 63 north of Houston.
The fire resulted from landowners burning piles of small trees and underbrush after clearing them from among larger trees. Strong winds and warm temperatures helped spread the fire through the leaf-covered tract, but no damage was done to the nearby church and firefighters had little trouble dousing hot spots.
