Military veteran

Hubert Wayne Caton, 85, passed away Sunday, April 6, 2014, at Missouri Veterans Home in St. James.

He was born Sept. 20, 1928, in Licking, son of William Franklin and Flossie 
May Walker Caton. He and Virginia Venable were married in September 1948. He later married Phyllis Pownall in February 1980.

He grew up in Licking and lived his entire life there except for a four-year stint serving in the Air Froce.

He was a member of Licking First Baptist Church, where he served as treasurer for 26 years, received the Certificate of Recognition of Deacon Emeritus award, and was general secretary for Sunday school until his health failed. He helped teach the 2-3 year old Sunday school class and served where needed.

He was a life member of the VFW, DAV and American Legion. He worked for Intercounty Electric for 33 
years both as a lineman and later a computer programmer.

He served on the board for the Texas County Food Pantry Board for 21 years. He was president 15 years. He was Licking’s city clerk for several years and was also an alderman.

He was preceded in death by his parents; three brothers, Alfred, Norman and Cubby; and two sisters, Alba Rowden 
and Elta Welch.

Survivors include his wife, Phyllis of the home; a son, Russ Caton of Rolla; a daughter, Melodia Sue Crum of East Lynne; two grandsons; two great-great grandchildren; and several other family members.

Services were Wednesday, April 9, at Licking First Baptist Church with Pastor Rob Lilly 
officiating. Burial with military rights was in Licking Cemetery under the direction of Fox Funeral Home.
