James William Crabtree, 92, passed away Thursday, April 3, 2014, in Lebanon, Mo.
He was born Nov. 20, 1921, in Turley, Mo., son of Fred and Ada (Jackson) Crabtree. He was married to Ellen Realmuto on May 2, 1941.
Jim was an active member of the Ben Davis Church of Christ. He was a veteran, serving in WWII with the United States Navy. He was an operating engineer in St. Louis, Mo., for many years. When he retired they moved to his farm near Plato, Mo.
Jim enjoyed fishing, hunting, camping, gardening and farming. He played “the fiercest game of Pitch” in the country.
He was preceded in death by his parents; two brothers, Vernon and Leonard; his wife, Ellen; and children, Freddie Crabtree and Carol Sliter.
Survivors include his wife, Bernice Crabtree, they were united in marriage on Sept. 3, 2000, at Embree Community Church; one sister, Edna Thompson of Peyson, Ariz., a son, J.R. (James Ray) and Ronda Crabtree of Marshfield, Mo.; son-in-law, Robert Sliter of Maryland Heights, Mo.; daughter-in-law, Jenny Faye Crabtree of Florissant, Mo.; grandchildren, Rick and Cindy Mendoza of Webster Groves, Mo., Will and Paula Milligan of Lake St. Louis, Mo., Brian Crabtree of Florissant, Mo., Shaun and Julie Beam of Mansfield, Ohio, Cody Crabtree and Kelsey Woodland of Jefferson City, Mo., and Holly Crabtree and Danny Howerton of Lebanon, Mo.; great-grandchildren, Jacqlynn and Ella Milligan of Lake St Louis, Mo., Caden and Bristol Crabtree; stepchildren, Jerry and Twila Wade of Wahoo, N.E., Don and Lola Massey of Lynchburg, Mo., Connie (and late husband Pete) Lubina of Lebanon, Mo., and Danny and Teresa Clark of Lebanon, Mo.; and numerous step-grandchildren, great-grandchildren, nieces, nephews, family and friends.
Services were 10 a.m. Monday April 7, at Evans Funeral Home with Bro. Ed Williamson and Bro. Wade Perryman officiating. Burial was in McBride Cemetery. Pallbearers were Rick Mendoza, Will Milligan, Brian Crabtree, Cody Crabtree, Don Massey and Danny Clark. Honorary pallbearers were Caden Crabtree and Bristol Crabtree.
