The City of Houston plans to add a 4,500-foot expansion of the Village Trial on Oak Hill Drive.

The City of Houston is taking sealed bids for a significant project to expand the Village Trail.

The project will result in a 4,500-foot addition to the sidewalk-like “trail” on Oak Hill Drive from the Brushy Creek Trailhead near Walnut Street north to Forrest Drive. Most of the sidewalk is on the east side of Oak Hill Drive — but a stretch on the west side runs from Acorn Lane to Walnut.

Included in construction will be installation of sidewalk, barriers, ramps, crossings, storm water piping and other items necessary for safe pedestrian access along the route.

Houston Development Director Elaine Campbell said monies from the Missouri Department of Transportation enhancement fund will cover 80 percent of the cost and the city will pick up the other 20-percent. Campbell said only two easements are required to complete the project.

“That makes things a lot easier than when you have to get 17, like we’re doing over near the school,” she said.

An optional pre-bid conference will take place at the City Hall at 2 p.m. Tuesday, May 27. Bids will be accepted until 2 p.m. Tuesday, June 10.
