Sales tax revenue in Houston was up during the latest monthly period.

Sales tax revenue collected by Houston merchants was up about 9 percent compared to the same monthly period a year ago, reports the Missouri Department of Revenue.

Retailers collected $56,887 in revenue from a one-cent sales tax. That’s up about $4,537 from the same period a year ago. For the first four months of the year, $222,571 has been collected. That’s up about 2 percent from 2013.

Two quarter-cent sales taxes also are collected. Each generated about $13,165. Another eighth-cent sales tax for debt repayment on a fire truck totaled about $6,473.
