Verla Mae Hodge, 79, passed away Thursday, May 1, 2014, at Mountain View Health Care.

She was born Aug. 29, 1934, in Salem, daughter of Joseph Barlow “Bob” and Mary Ethel Counts Martin. She and Vester Guern Hodge were married May 17, 1966.

Mae and her husband, Guern, moved from St. Louis and made their home in Summersville. She was worked at the Angelica Uniform Factory in Summersville for many years.

She was a member at Midvale Church. She loved to pass out candy on Sunday mornings. She volunteered at the Summersville Senior Center.

When her health declined in December 2010, she moved to Mountain View Health Care, where she was known as “Gran” or “Granny Mae.”

She was preceded in death by her husband, Guern Hodge; her parents; two sisters, Elizabeth “Liz” Psalmonds and Lois Stotler; two brothers, Noah Martin and Robert Martin; and an infant brother, Jake Martin.

Survivors include her children, Daniel Hodge, Jimmy Hodge, Harold Hodge, Ricky Hodge, Paul Hodge, Tony Hodge, Stony Hodge, Cody Hodge, Thelma Jean Crider, Sonya Hodge and Colleen Nikkari; and many other family members.

Services were Monday, May 5, at Bradford Funeral Home Chapel with the Rev. James Bradford officiating. Burial was in Black Pond Cemetery.
