Brian Flowers and his father, Terry, on the family farm at Bado with the barn quilt.

There is a new piece of artwork in the Bado community: A barn quilt recently was erected on the Flowers family farm after its creation by Houston’s Bev Flowers.

The 8 x 8 foot quilt on the red barn was installed just in time for a reunion of family and friends and is part of a growing trend across the country to place the painted quilt squares on boards and mount them on a barn or other building.

The art’s creator hopes the trend will catch on in Texas County. In many areas of the country, quilt trails are becoming increasingly popular and sparking tourism.

On the Flowers’ barn, the artwork includes four lilies. Her husband, Terry, and son, Brian, placed the two 4 x 8 sheets that comprise the project on the barn. Later, 45 family members and friends gathered on the farm for the picnic.
