Two Texas County graduates recently received promotions within Troop G of the Missouri State Highway Patrol.

Dale B. Pounds, a Houston native and Houston High School graduate, was promoted to the rank of sergeant and designated the zone supervisor for Zone 8 in Texas County. Terry R. Nelson, a Licking native and Licking High School graduate, was promoted to corporal and named assistant zone supervisor of Zone 2 in the county.

Pounds entered the patrol’s academy in October 2004 as a member of the 83rd recruit class. His first assignment was Troop E in Pemiscot and New Madrid counties. In 2007, he was transferred to Troop G, where he was promoted to corporal in August 20012.

Pounds is married to Brenda (Kahler) Pounds.

Nelson, who earned an associate’s degree in criminal justice from Mineral Area College, was a member of the patrol’s 77th recruit class in 2000. He was first assigned to Troop H in Davies and Dekalb counties before transferring to Troop G, Zone 2 in 2002.

Nelson is married to Vicki (Gunter) Nelson, who serves as the chief driver examiner at Troop G headquarters. The couple has two grown children, Joseph Nelson and Whitney Rohman.
