A Raymondville man is in the Texas County Jail following an incident June 11 in which he allegedly tried to rape a Licking woman.
Facing a felony charge of first-degree rape or attempted rape is David E. Oblinger, 45, of Possom Trot Drive, who is suspected of trying to rape a 29-year-old woman after asking her to give him a ride to Houston.
According to a probable cause statement submitted to the county prosecutor by a Texas County Sheriff’s Department deputy, the woman’s husband called at about 5:30 a.m. to report his wife could be in danger. After an investigation, a deputy determined the woman was leaving for work in Houston, and Oblinger had asked for a ride so he could retrieve a pickup at his property.
The woman reportedly took Oblinger there, but he then assaulted her. She was able to break free and ran away into some adjacent woods. She eventually called for help from a nearby residence.
Oblinger was apprehended Friday and is held on $200,000 bond.
