Sales tax revenue was down in Houston during the latest monthly distribution.

Revenue from sales taxes collected by Houston merchants dipped slightly during the latest monthly distribution, reports the Missouri Department of Revenue.

The tally from a one-cent sales tax was $56,554, which was down $678 from the same period a year ago. For the first five months of the year, collections are up $2,902 to $279,125.

Two quarter-cent sales taxes also are collected for transportation, utility and sidewalk needs. Each generated about $13,400. An eighth-cent sales tax — used for debt retirement on a fire truck — totaled $6,697.
