STEVEN MONTGOMERY

Steven Keith Montgomery, 57, passed away Friday, May 30, 2014, in Hawaii.

He was born Oct. 26, 1956, in Cabool, son of Earl and Emma Montgomery. He and Lynnette Jean Lands were married July 15, 1989, in Mountain Grove.

He accepted Jesus as his Lord and Savior when he was eight years old, was baptized and joined the First Baptist Church. He and his family have been active in the Cabool Christian Church for many years.

He grew up on a farm on Beeler Creek, where he enjoyed wildlife, hunting and fishing with his brother, Bill. He graduated from Cabool High School in 1975. He received a wildlife conservation and management degree from Southwest Missouri State University in 1979 and worked three years for the Arkansas Game and Fish Commission. He returned to Cabool in 1983 and managed the Cabool Bowling Alley for a few years, then worked for Cabool Schools. He joined the Cabool Street Department in June 1993 and was named head of the street department in December 1994. He was instrumental in the planning and development of the lake in the Piney River Recreational Area.

He and his wife, Lynnette, purchased a small farm on PP Highway near Cabool in 1990. They recently completed construction of their new home.

He adored his grandchildren and spent many hours playing ball, fishing and hunting with them. Traveling with his wife, gardening, wood working and doing anything with family were among his many interests.

Survivors include his wife, Lynnette of the home; his mother, Emma Montgomery; a son, Todd Montgomery of Cabool; two daughters, Shilo Matherly of Cabool and Shannon Strickland of Rogersville; a brother, Bill Montgomery; seven grandchildren; and many other family members.

Services were Tuesday, June 10, at Cabool Christian Church with Jeff Randleman officiating. Burial was in the Ozark Cemetery under the direction of Elliott-Gentry-Carder Funeral Home.
