Texas Music Teachers Association will celebrate its 100th annual state convention at the Houston Hyatt Regency, June 12-16, 2014. More than 6,000 teachers, students, guests, exhibitors, and staff will attend. Registration is required and allows attendees to attend all open events.
The Jo Ann Dunn Fargason Memorial Concert featuring State, Division and National Student Winners of the Music Teachers National Association (MTNA) Performance Competitions. It will be held in the Regency Ballroom of the Houston Hyatt on Thursday, June 12, 2014 from 7:30 – 9:00 p.m.
An event unique to this large music convention will be over 1500 students, first grade to collegiate, from all over the state of Texas performing in ensembles on 15 grand pianos. Students in costume or formal attire will perform in 7 concerts held Friday, Saturday and Sunday, June 13-16. As many as three students will be playing on one piano in these exciting and entertaining ensembles. That’s 450 fingers playing 1,320 keys!
Performance competitions, concerts, sessions, master classes, exhibits will also be available to registered attendees of all ages. Student projects, similar to science fair projects only related to music will be on display and the exhibits will house a children’s area for music exploration.
The Texas Music Teachers Educational Foundation will award over $40,000 to students for MTNA/TMTA and TMTA Student Affiliate contests and participation.
Texas Music Teachers Association is affiliated with Music Teachers National Association and is a 501C-3 non-profit organization. All activities of the association are educational and for the promotion of the art of music and the advancement of musical knowledge.
