Billie Jean Smith, 88, passed away Wednesday, July 23, 2014, in Houston.
She was born April 1, 1926, daughter of James William “Bill” and Tressie Wood Atkisson. She and Delmar Smith were married Oct. 19, 1948.
She attended school in Raymondville and graduated from Houston High School. She and her husband, Delmar traveled extensively and lived in many locations in the United States and overseas during his military career. They located in Houston after his retirement. She worked at Ozark Walnut, Walmart and Texas County Memorial Hospital while living in Houston. They moved to Lebanon and most recently, she lived in Rolla as long as she was able to remain on her own home.
She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Delmar; and a brother, James Blaine Atkisson.
Survivors include two sisters, Peggy Evans of Houston and Marcie Atkisson of La Mesa, Calif.; two brothers, Edward Atkisson of Rolla and Aaron Atkisson of Springfield; and several nieces and nephews.
According to her wishes, there will be no funeral or memorial service. Her ashes will be buried in Lebanon under the direction of Holman Howe Funeral Home.
