Texas County authorities retrieved a reported stolen bird as part of an investigation.
A deputy was dispatched regarding a report of theft at a Highway U residence at Cabool.
A 37-year-old man who lives there told the officer his Umbrella Cockatoo, valued at $500, had been stolen. He named a 53-year-old woman as a suspect.
The officer and the man went to the woman’s residence, also on Highway U, and observed a bird matching the description of the swiped animal. The man had stated his bird was nine years old, but the woman told the officer the bird in her home was only nine months old.
When asked if she would consent to having an expert verify the bird’s age, the woman handed it to the man and said, “here, take it.” She also still denied it was his. A report about the incident was sent to the county prosecutor.
