Texas County authorities handled several investigations — many of them burglary related — during the last week.

The following reports were generated last week by the Texas County Sheriff’s Department:

•A deputy was dispatched June 24 to a Freedom Road residence at Willow Springs regarding a report of a burglary. The officer made contact with the home’s owner, a 32-year-old Mississippi man, who said copper wire, water lines and propane lines valued at $3,050 had been swiped.

There are no suspects.

•A deputy was dispatched June 28 to a Horner Road residence at Licking regarding a report of a burglary.

The owner made contact with a 58-year-old man who lives there who said the drive shaft to his Sidewinder brush hog, valued at $175, had been swiped.

There are no suspects.

•Zachariah T. Settles, 21, of 711 County Road 6620 at Licking, was issued citations for first-degree trespassing and second-degree property damage after allegedly breaking the porch light at a Rusty Road residence at Houston on at about 10:30 p.m. July 4.

An investigating officer reported that he was dispatched to the location regarding an attempted break-in. Upon arrival, the officer observed a man in the back yard who was apparently drunk and detained him. A 75-year-old man who lives there told the officer he didn’t know the suspect.

Settles was taken to the Texas County Jail.

•A Willow Springs woman called at about 12:30 a.m. July 6 to report her boyfriend was drunk and causing a disturbance at her Freedom Road residence. An investigating officer took the man to the Texas County Jail by his own request for a six-hour hold period so he could sober up.

•A woman called at about 4 p.m. July 9 to report her son was on his way to her house to assault her. An investigating officer determined there had been a dispute over a vehicle and the son was actually not on his way to the woman’s home, but had been in contact by phone.

•Chad W. Hutsell, 24, of 810 Cleveland Road in Houston, was issued a citation July 11 for operating an ATV on a roadway.

•A 52-year-old Willow Springs man reported July 10 that someone had entered his Highway HH residence and stolen a handgun valued at $650, music CDs valued at $200 and $280 cash. The case is being investigated.

•Vance M. Brown, 20, of 205 W. Steffens Street in Houston, was issued citations for resisting arrest, minor visibly intoxicated and punching and kicking another person in the face after an incident at about 10 a.m. July 4 outside H & K Flea Market on U.S. 63 north of Houston.

An investigating officer reported he was dispatched to the location regarding a fight in progress. After a short struggle with Brown, the officer deployed his taser and detained him.

Brown was taken to the Texas County Jail, but refused to exit the patrol vehicle upon arrival. The officer and an assisting Missouri State Highway Patrol trooper carried him into jail.

•A Cabool woman reported at about 10:30 a.m. July 12 that two horses and 15 chickens had been stolen from her Beeler Road property.

Upon arrival, an investigating officer made contact with a man at the location who said the horses had been found in a lot behind the house. During a search of the area, the officer found the carcasses of the chickens and determined a predator had entered the pen.

•A deputy was dispatched at about 9 a.m. July 5 regarding a report of a burglary at a Barnes Road residence at Cabool.

A 76-year-old Mountain Grove man who owns the home told the officer numerous tools and other items with a total value of $2,698.88 had been swiped. There are no suspects.

•An officer reported that at about 3:15 a.m. July 8, he was driving his patrol vehicle on Highway 17 and struck what appeared to be a low-hanging electric line. Intercounty Electric was contacted, and representatives of the company arrived at the scene.

They told the officer the line was a phone line and cut it to get it out of the roadway.
