During his appearance as a guest reader for kids enrolled in the summer reading program last Thursday at the Summersville branch of the Texas County Library, former NASA astronaut Tim Akers, of Eminence, autographs a radiometer containing figures of astronauts made by Texas County Associate commissioner John Casey, right.

Retired NASA astronaut Col. Thomas Akers visited the Summersville branch of Texas County Library last Thursday in conjunction with the Summer Reading Program in progress.

Akers kept the giggles flowing as he read, “The Cow Who Wouldn’t Come Down” to an appreciative audience of youngsters. After telling of his experiences on four different NASA space shuttle flights, he answered numerous questions asked by the children in attendance.

Akers autographed photos of himself for each of the children, and Friends of the Library member, Bea Hall, provided a bio to accompany each photo.
