Sales tax revenue collected by merchants in Houston jumped about 25 percent from the same monthly period a year, reports the Missouri Department of Revenue.
The tally from a one-cent sales tax was about $71,750, an increase of $14,489 from a year ago. For the first half of the year, collections stand at $350,874, which is up about 5.2 percent or $17,391.
Revenue from two, quarter-cent sales taxes for sidewalks, streets and utility work totaled $17,434, an increase of $3,462 on each from a year ago. For the first six months of the year, the total is $82,979, up $3,305.
An eighth-cent sales tax used for debt repayment on a fire truck totaled $8,717, an increase of $1,731 from a year ago.
