Alberta Roxie McGowen, 69, daughter of Charley and Lura (Knight) Pearcy, was born June 8, 1945, in Upton, Mo. She passed away July 15, 2014, at Barnes-Jewish Hospital in St. Louis, Mo., following a struggle with cancer.

Roxie was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Lonnie; two brothers: Stanley and Rex Pearcy; and one sister, Rita Collins.

Roxie grew up in the Upton area and graduated from Plato High School. She married the love her life and best friend, Lonnie Dean McGowen, on May 11, 1963, and to this union three children were born.

She is survived by her children, Kevin McGowen and wife, Brenda, Kelly Head and husband, Heath, and Karla Hinkle and husband, Matt; three grandchildren, Jenna, Megan and Mason; two great-grandchildren, Hunter and Levi; and a lifelong family friend, Rhonda Neal. She is also survived by a sister, Alvina Biram.

Roxie was a member of Ozark Baptist Church and was baptized Aug. 11, 1974. Roxie had rededicated her life to the Lord and shared with others how much she had learned about Him in the past year.

Roxie and Lonnie owned and operated the Skyline Trophy Shop for 35 years. They owned L & R Mobile Homes, Inc. from 1972 to present. They also owned and operated L&R Skating Rink for 10 years during the 1980s.

Roxie was a great athlete and especially enjoyed playing softball and bowling. She loved to support local young athletes and various teams. Her true calling was supporting and helping others, both individually and through numerous community organizations. She loved traveling and spending time with Lonnie, as well as the many adventures and hobbies she and Rhonda shared together. She especially loved gathering family and friends together in the McGowen home for fish fries and other meals.

Roxie’s greatest enjoyment was being with her family. She was a wonderful wife, mother, grandmother and great-grandmother. She will be tremendously missed by all who knew and loved her.

Services were 10 a.m. Saturday, July 19, 2014, at Wellspring Church with Pastor Doug Collins and the Rev. Kendall Ford officiating. Pallbearers were Matt Hinkle, Heath Head, J D Biram, Bud Biram, Robert Perkins, Donald McCallister and Mason Hinkle. Burial was in Hickory Ridge Cemetery under the direction of Evans Funeral Home.
