The following reports were generated last week by the Texas County Sheriff’s Department:
•A representative of Evening Shade Market on Highway AW at Plato reported July 9 that a man pumped $75 worth of gas into a white Chevrolet Suburban and drove off without paying for it.
An investigating officer stated the store employee said the driver was a Houston man who is well-known to local law officers. The officer attempted to contact him without success. Investigation of the matter continues.
•An officer was dispatched at about 11:10 p.m. July 17 regarding a report of shots fired at a residence on Red Springs Road at Mountain Grove. Before he arrived, the officer was advised to disregard the call because the determination had been made that neighbors were using fireworks.
•A Houston man called July 18 to report trash being dumped along Emmett Kelly Road.
The man presented an investigating officer with paperwork showing that a man who allegedly dumped the garbage was on probation. The officer made contact with the suspect and offered him the choice of picking up trash along Emmett Kelly Road or a citation for littering. He reportedly chose to pick up trash.
•A 66-year-old Licking woman reported July 19 that a window air conditioning unit valued at $800 had been stolen from her Highway N residence. There are no suspects.
•A 44-year-old Houston woman reported July 19 that her former husband, 46, and their 25-year-old son had come to her residence that she was awarded in a divorce settlement, broken in and stolen several items.
An investigating officer made contact with the former husband, who reportedly said he was retrieving some of his tools and had kicked in a garage panel that was already broken.
The officer stated in a report that the woman allegedly kicked and hit the man during the incident, and admitted to getting a pistol out of her vehicle and fired a shot into the air. The officer said the son stated he heard his mother say she could kill the man and get away with it.
A report was sent to the county prosecutor.
•An officer was dispatched at about 7:35 p.m. July 19 after a woman reported shots fired by neighbors of her Maple Lane residence at Plato. The woman told the officer she had heard pellets falling through trees in her front yard near where her children were playing.
The officer made contact with two men at the neighboring residence, who stated they had been shooting at targets. The officer observed that one of the men appeared to be extremely drunk and warned him about potential citations for peace disturbance and handling a firearm while intoxicated.
•Two Texas County Jail inmates were issued citations July 20 for possession of prohibited items.
Kenneth Manion, 36, of 9501 Peace Chapel Road at Plato was cited for having a cell phone, and Miles C. Wolfe, 36, of 8205 Northview Lane, No. 25, in Houston, was cited for having the phone’s battery.
•An officer investigated a reported burglary at a Country Aire Lane trailer park at Cabool.
A probable cause statement was sent to the county prosecutor seeking charges against a 40-year-old Cabool man suspected of swiping about $400 worth of items related to fishing and the outdoors.
•An officer was dispatched at about 4 p.m. July 24 regarding a report of teenagers speeding along Forrest Drive in Houston on ATVs and dirt bikes.
