BETTY BEST

Betty Lou Craig Best, 81, of Mountain View, passed away Thursday, Aug. 21, 2014, at St. John’s Hospital in Tulsa, Okla.

She was born April 6, 1933, in Eunice, daughter of Lucien and Edna Lay. She and Fred H. Craig Sr. were married in January 1950. She married Franklin Best in June 1982. He passed away in 2012.

She attended a rural, one-room, school in Eunice for eight years and graduated from Summersville High School with perfect attendance for all 12 years.

She worked 23 years at Paramount Cap Factory in Winona. As a CNA, she provided are for the elderly in the Bartlesville, Okla., area in the 1980s and ’90s. She was also a member of Eastern Star and the Baptist church.

Sewing and quilting were hobbies she enjoyed. She made numerous quilts, tea towels and pillowcases for her extended family. She loved yard sales and flea markets. Thursdays were saved for her weekly hair appointment.

She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Franklin; and two sisters, Imogene Hines of Sullivan and Udeena Boyd of Houston.

Survivors include four children, Sonya Bock of Advance, Sheila Tyler of Summersville, Fred Craig, Jr. of Mountain View and Donnie Craig of Birch Tree; nine grandchildren; 17 great-grandchildren; a brother, Kenneth Lay of Houston; a sister, Wilma Burger of Tulsa, Okla.; her fiancé, Dutch Parsons, of Bartlesville, Okla.; and numerous nieces and nephews.

Services were Monday, Aug. 25, at Yarber Mortuary with Bro. Stacey Prewett officiating. Burial was in Pine Lawn Cemetery.
