Loyd Loranza Clarkston, 83, passed away at his home in Bucyrus, Missouri, on Aug. 6, 2014.

Loyd was born to Zenith (Belt) and Manual Floyd Clarkston on June 12, 1931, in Ventura, Calif. His childhood years were spent near Gainesville, Mo., in Ozark County, and he was a 1949 graduate of Gainesville High School. He attended College at MoArk Baptist College in West Plains, Mo., and worked as a teacher. He later attended Southwest Baptist College and Southwest Missouri State University (bachelor’s degree in education) and the University of Missouri – Columbia (master’s degree in education). He received additional specialist certification at the University of Arkansas, Fayetteville.

He was married to Anita Elaine Carter, the love of his life, on May 31, 1959, at Fairview Pentecostal Church in Fairview, Mo., leading to a romance of 55 years. They had three children, all of whom became physicians.

He spent his career as an Educator, working as a teacher, elementary principal, high school principal, and Director of Curriculum in the Waynesville -Fort Leonard Wood R-6 School District.

He retired after 35 years of teaching to the family farm in Bucyrus, Mo., where he enjoyed raising cattle, tending his garden and participating in many activities in the community.

Loyd was preceded in death by his sister, Thelma Berniece True of Urbana, Mo.

He is survived by his wife, Anita E. Clarkston; his brother, Roy Buford Clarkston of Clarkton, Mo.; his son, Wendell K. Clarkston, MD, and wife Cindy Chang, MD, of Stilwell, Kan.; his daughter, Dawna McCulloch, MD, and husband, Scott McCullough, MD, of Lee’s Summit, Mo.; his son, Kendell Clarkston, MD, and wife Laurie Clarkston, MD, of Willow Springs, Mo. He is survived by 11 grandchildren, Kevan, Kathryn, Connor and Christopher Clarkston of Stilwell, Kan., Madison and Bailey McCulloch of Lees Summit, Mo., and Wesley, Jessie, Benjamin, Claire and Will Clarkston of Willow Springs, Mo.

We will greatly miss our husband, father, grandfather, friend, confidant, teacher, supporter and lover of life. His large presence, big smile, warm heart, and total honesty made him a friend to many.

Services were 11 a.m. Saturday, Aug. 9, at Evans Funeral Home with Pastor Marcus Allen officiating. Pallbearers were Scott McCulloch, Wendell Clarkston, Kendell Clarkston, Steve Yonkers, Roy True, Ervin Medlock and Connor Clarkston. Burial with full military honors was in Bado Cemetery, Cabool, Mo., under the direction of Evans Funeral Home.

Memorials may be made to Bado Cemetery or the American Heart Association, in lieu of flowers.
