Officers with the Licking Police Department on Friday worked in cooperation with the Missouri Department of Corrections on a drug investigation resulting in two arrests.
LPD chief Scott Lindsey said that at about 2:30 p.m., police – including the K-9 unit – and department of corrections investigators confronted two women suspected of bringing drugs to Licking’s South Central Correctional Correctional Center. During the investigation, the suspects admitted there were drugs in a local motel room they had rented.
The LPD K-9 team responded to the motel and found heroin, marijuana and drug paraphernalia in the women’s room. As a result, Carol J. Nussbaum, 53, and Laura L. Smith, 47, both of Belton, were arrested for possession of controlled substances and drug paraphernalia.
The suspects were taken to the Texas County Jail and placed on a 24-hour hold pending formal filing of charges.
