Houston Police Chief Jim McNiell holds a pair of counterfeit bills that were taken in last weekend at two community businesses.

The Houston Police Department has recently received two reports of fake money that was received at community businesses.

HPD Sgt. Tim Ceplina on Saturday investigated a fake five that was received at Dollar General, and Chief Jim McNiell said a phony 20 appeared Monday in Town and County Supermarket’s weekend bank deposit.

“I know businesses sometimes get busy, but I encourage business owners and employees to always be careful when taking in cash,” McNiell said. “Even if it’s busy, slow down a little and look at the money you’re handed. If it looks even the least bit strange, use your counterfeit detection pen on it and you might avoid a problem and save some money at the same time.”

The HPD’s phone number is 417-967-3348.
