Texas County sold 10 parcels of property Monday for back taxes after the owners failed to pay them. The sale is held annually in August on the front steps of the Texas County Administrative Center. Here, Collector-Treasurer Tammy Cantrel conducts the sale.

Texas County sold 10 tracts of property Monday because the owners had not paid their taxes for three years.

Collector-Treasurer Tammy Cantrell said the property brought $30,650 on the steps of the Texas County Administrative Center on Grand Avenue.

Cantrell issues a “certificate of purchase” to those successful, but it can’t be redeemed for one year. Cantrell said 90 days before the year ends, the holder must notify the original owner, any lienholders and conduct a title search.

Proceeds after three years are shared by Texas County schools, she said.
