Sales tax revenue was up in Houston during the latest monthly distribution.

Revenue from a one-cent sales tax collected by Houston merchants was up about 2.6 percent from the same period a year ago, reports the Missouri Department of Revenue.

The total during the latest monthly distribution was $47,011, which was up $1,196 from the same period a year ago. For the year, $397,885 has been collected. That’s up $18,587 for the first seven months of 2014.

Two quarter-cent sales taxes — for streets, sidewalks and utility work — each totaled about $11,413 for the month.  An eighth-cent sales tax for debt retirement on a fire truck totaled $5,706.
