An annual event aimed to unite Texas County in prayer for area schools was Sunday night in Houston

“Prayer Zone Challenge III” was inside Hiett Gymnasium on the Houston High School campus. The third-annual event was hosted by the Houston Ministerial Alliance.

Launched in 2012, the initiative featured a kickoff with more than 600 people. A billboard was erected near the southern city limits marking Houston as a “prayer zone,” and yard signs were passed out.

This year’s service included worship led by the Harmoniers and the Undivided Hearts praise team. Paul Posey, the director of missions for the Texas County Baptist Association, delivered the message.

“Join us as we come together in prayer with one purpose. We are taking down denominational barriers to stand in the gap for God’s protection and provision in the school year to come,” said Nick Melton, president of the Houston Ministerial Alliance, before the event. “We are a prayer zone, and we stand on what the word of God declares, ‘If My people who are called by My name will humble themselves, and pray and seek My face, and turn from their wicked ways, then I will hear from heaven, and will forgive their sin and heal their land.’”
