An organization that assists children in the region is holding an event May 29 in Houston.

The Court Appointed Special Advocates (CASA) for Children of South Central Missouri will host an awareness event from 6 – 8 p.m. Saturday at the Lone Star Plaza (at Pine Street and Grand Avenue) in downtown Houston.

Highlighting the event will be a performance beginning at 7 p.m. by Nashville-based Michael Connors, who is partnering with CASA. A songwriter, singer and guitarist, Connors has just come off the Live Wire Tour and played before sold out venues throughout the Midwest and South, organizers said.

He describes his latest single, “Good Life,” as being about “life and rockin’ out the way that everybody deserves.”

Sanctioned by the National CASA Association, South Central CASA began in 2005 as a way to assist children living in foster care in Missouri’s 25th Judicial Circuit (which includes Texas, Phelps, Maries and Pulaski counties). CASA serves 100 neglected and abused children with 39 volunteers, who are appointed by judges to speak on behalf of those children in court cases.

Admission to the event is free and dinner will be served.
