A local man recently accepted the invitation to become the full-time pastor at a Raymondville church.
Jim Root, of Houston, began leading Community Crossroads earlier this month. He was previously the lead pastor at Church of God of Prophesy for more than two decades before resigning last fall.
Root accepted an invitation to preach at the church this summer and filled the pulpit a handful of times before the church offered him the role of lead pastor.
“I had taken some time off and re-evaluated things,” Root said. “This is the right time and seems like the right fit.”
Root, 60, will continue his full-time employment with the City of Houston as the director of Parks and Recreation. He and his wife, Connie, also run an alpaca farm on their property just outside of Houston.
Community Crossroads holds Sunday school at 10 a.m. followed by worship services at 11 a.m. Bible study is 7 p.m. Wednesdays. Sunday evening services are scheduled periodically.
