The Houston eighth-grade volleyball team opened the season last Tuesday night with a 25-18, 25-16 home loss to Willow Springs.
Charlee Sue Jadwin, Kennedy Campbell, Madison Barton, Tara Stanton and Taylor Buckner had five points apiece for Houston.
“It was our first game, and we had a lot of jitters that needed worked out,” Houston coach Kayla Sloan said. “But I feel it was a success even though it didn’t show on the scoreboard.
“The girls are learning to work together and communicate, verbally and emotionally, with each other, which is difficult in our gym where the volume levels are so high.”
Last Thursday, Stacy Mortensen led Houston with four points in a 25-10, 25-12 home loss to Summersville.
SEVENTH GRADE: Kelly Hubbs had a team-high seven points in Houston’s 25-16, 25-21 loss last Thursday to Summersville.
Viviana Guerra, Savannah Ryan and Madyson Tune all had aces. Maggie Brown and Janae Huff had one kill apiece.
