Connie J. (Gray) Cook, daughter of Archie and Gladys (Bias) Gray, was born in Duncan, Okla., on Aug. 4, 1939. She passed away Sept. 29, 2014, at Mercy Hospital in Springfield, Mo
She was preceded in death by her father and mother, Archie and Gladys Gray; her sisters, Colleen Maddox, Norma Hutchinson and Donna Merkel; her brother, Andy Gray; her son, Bart Cook; and her grandson, Robert B Cook.
She is survived by her sons, Mark Cook and Greg Cook; her daughter, Tallie Cook; her husband, Lloyd Cook; her sister, Susan Robertson; eight grandchildren; and 15 great-grandchildren.
Connie grew up all over the U.S., but was born and lived a great deal in Oklahoma. She considered herself an Okie. She attended 26 different schools and finished high school in Borger, Texas. Although she attended 26 schools she maintained a GPA of 4.0 throughout.
Connie married Lloyd Cook on Jan. 26, 1958, in Skellytown, Texas. They were married for 56 years. They lived in Skellytown, Texas, for seven years, then moved to Borger, Texas, and lived there for eight years. They then moved to Houston, Mo. Connie moved to Laquey, Mo., nine years ago.
Connie was a homemaker while her children were young, then was the Food Service Director for the Houston School District for 10 years. She was loved by all the children who came through the lunch line. Sewing was her passion. She made most of the clothes her children wore and a lot of the clothes for her grandchildren.
In her later years, she loved watching the Gaitherâs and Booth Brothers sing. One of Connie’s favorite things to do was go on road trips to visit her sisters and being with her Pomeranian dog, “Bella.” A very passionate reader, she could read a book a day. Connie was an avid football fan her favorite teams were Dallas Cowboys, Oklahoma State University and Oklahoma University. When Oklahoma was playing she would call her sister, Sue, and they would enjoy the game together.
Connie had a generous heart, was quick to forgive and to let life roll off her back
She was loved by all.
Services were 3 p.m. Thursday, Oct. 2, at Evans Funeral Home with Paul Murray officiating. Pallbearers were Mark Cook, Greg Cook, Andrew Cook and Derek Cook. Burial was in the Wolford Cemetery under the direction of Evans Funeral Home.
