The Houston eighth-grade volleyball team won a pair of matches to place third in the annual Texas County Tournament.
The Lady Tigers got their first victory of the season by defeating Success 25-13, 25-16 in pool play. After losses to Summersville and Cabool, Houston defeated Raymondville 25-23, 19-25, 25-14 in the third-place match.
“It was a great day all the way around,” Houston coach Kayla Sloan said. “It was fun to see the girls clicking and finally putting it all together.”
Stacy Mortenson and Elayna Sisk had seven aces apiece in the tournament. Alexis Choate added four and Charlee Sue Jadwin had three.
In last Thursday’s season finale, Houston lost 25-10, 25-18 to Licking.
Jadwin had two kills for Houston. Tara Stanton added an ace and kill. Taylor Buckner also had an ace.
“It was a great season with these girls,” Sloan said. “They have grown so much from the beginning to the end.”
