The Shadows of Liberty Coast to Coast Screening and Media Reform Action Tour will come to the historic Star Theater in Willow Springs for a special event at 7 p.m. this Saturday to benefit community radio KZGM, 88.1 FM in Cabool (KZ88).
The event will feature a screening of the documentary film, “Shadows of Liberty,” that reveals the extraordinary truth behind the news media with regard to censorship, cover-ups and corporate control. The film features renowned journalists, activists and academics (including Danny Glover, Julian Assange, Dan Rather, Amy Goodman, Kristina Borjesson and others) giving insider accounts of a broken media system and describing how controversial news reports are suppressed, people are censored for speaking out and lives are shattered as the arena for public expression is turned into a private profit zone.
“Shadows Of Liberty is dedicated to the journalists and information freedom fighters, the heroes of our time, who dedicate their lives to our right to freedom of information – the central pillar of a free society,” said Myron Jackson of KZ88. “The film provides a platform for voices that have been silenced and in doing so, attempts to inspire change and accountability. It champions the idea of an independent media where truth and integrity are the norm, not the exception.”
A panel discussion will take place after the screening.
The Star Theater is at 205 E. Main St. in Willow Springs. A $10 donation is suggested to support KZ88 and the Shadows of Liberty Coast to Coast Screening and Media Reform Action Tour.
