Participants in this year's Texas County Fair junior livestock sale gather in the showing arena at the Houston Area Chamber of Commerce Fairgrounds before the Aug. 2 event. The Texas County Fair Board (which sponsors the sale and all other livestock-related activities at the fair) will host its annual fundraiser dinner and auction Saturday.

The Texas County Fair Board’s annual dinner and auction is set for 5 p.m. this Saturday in the livestock showing arena at the Houston Area Chamber of Commerce Fairgrounds.

The event is the fair board’s biggest annual fundraiser and will feature a meal including hog, goat, lamb and beef, and an auction featuring items donated by community businesses, organizations and individuals. A fire pit with a large fire will be set up adjacent to the seating area.

Funds from each year’s dinner and auction go toward improvements in and around the livestock area at the fairgrounds. Last year’s event funded construction of a new office next to the showing arena and a livestock loading and unloading chute, and the addition of concrete and gravel to areas on the grounds.

The Texas County Fair Board meets at 6:30 p.m. on the third Tuesday of each month at the new office next to the livestock arena. The public is welcome and encouraged to attend.

Tickets for the dinner are $10 for people ages 13 and over and $5 for kids 6-12. Kids 5 and under eat free. Adult tickets include two chances to win half a processed hog.

Donations of items for the auction are still being sought. For more information, call fair board president Darren Ice at 417-260-0471, or board members Tony Bieller at 417-763-5568, or Russell Gaither at 417-217-0894.
