HHS rally completes doubleheader sweep on Senior Night

Olivia Woosley and Lizzy Swindell appropriately delivered the go-ahead runs on Senior Night.

Woosley had a RBI triple in the top of the eighth inning and Swindell followed with a run-scoring double as Houston topped Willow Springs 12-10 Monday on Carter Field.

The victory completed a doubleheader sweep for the Lady Tigers, who also beat Bakersfield 11-1 in five innings.

The seniors sealed the victory, but it was a sophomore who made it possible.

With two outs and HHS trailing 7-5 in the top of the seventh, Tori McCloud singled a 2-2 pitch up the middle to score a pair of runs and tie it. An error allowed the Lady Tigers to take a 9-7 lead, but Willow Springs scored twice in the bottom of the seventh to force extra innings.

McCloud was 5-for-5 to lead the HHS offense. Woosley had four hits and Autumn Walker added three hits and a pair of RBIs.

HHS was the visiting team for the rescheduled game, which was supposed to be played the previous day in Willow Springs.

The Lady Tigers’ third senior, Kylee Elmore, got the complete-game victory on the mound. She sealed the win with a strikeout in the bottom of the eighth.

After the win, Houston’s senior trio was introduced alongside their parents as they walked onto the field. Their teammates shared gifts and embraces with them. 

In the first game of the doubleheader, freshman Kaitlyn Root was 3-for-3 in the Lady Tigers’ 10-run victory.

Swindell, McCloud and Taylor Chipps knocked in two runs apiece. Walker, Woosley, Tommi Franklin and Abbey Slocum each scored twice.

Elmore allowed four hits and walked two in the complete-game win.
