A delegation from Houston attended the Missouri Community Betterment Program's annual conference and awards event in Columbia.

Houston was among winners Monday at the Missouri Community Betterment conference in Columbia.

The community took fourth place in its population category. Other winners in Houston’s population division were: Louisiana, first; Albany, second; Steelville, third; and East Prairie, fifth. Community of the year went to Pleasant Hill.

The awards banquet was the highlight of the 51st annual conference that assists communities to improve the quality of life. Nearly 225 volunteers, community leaders and youth from across the state attended.

In the youth group category, Houston won second. 

Two Houston residents also received recognition. Ben Hugenot was honored with a Youth Leadership Award.

Alice Wells took home an Adult Leadership Award.
