There is little doubt that 2014 will be a record year for the Houston Police Department’s caseload.
HPD Chief Jim McNiell reports that the department will almost certainly equal last year’s record total of 503 before the end of October.
“We’ll tie what we had last year in about a week or two,” McNiell said. “Based on the way our activity has been, it’s our opinion that we’ll exceed 600 cases requiring written reports this year.”
McNiell said theft, assault and domestic disturbances lead the way.
“We’re just very busy responding to a lot of calls,” he said. “All the officers are doing an excellent job, but every one of us is tired because we’re working awfully hard.”
