Sales tax revenue reported in Texas County in 2014 hit a new benchmark: More than million. Texas County has collected a sales tax since the early 1980s.

Revenue from sales taxes in Texas County is showing strength, the Missouri Department of Revenue reports.

Merchants collect three half-cent sales taxes. Each generated about $80,319, which was up about $7,443 on each. That’s an increase of 10.2 percent from the same month in 2013.

For the first three quarters of the year, about $766,000 was been collected from each. That’s up about 8.2 percent from the same period a year ago.

Merchants began collected a three-eighths-cent sales tax for the new 911 system. A 15 percent surtax on telephone bills is set to disappear with its launch.
