Sales tax revenue in Houston was up during the latest monthly period. For the first two months of the year, the tally is up about 2.2 percent.

Sales tax revenue collected by Houston merchants jumped about 13 percent from  the same monthly period a year ago.

The total from a one-cent sales tax was $56,389, an increase of $6,274 from the same period a year ago. For the first nine months of the year, $521,404 has been collected. That’s an increase of $28,568 or about 6 percent for the year.

Retailers also collect two, quarter-cent sales tax for streets, sidewalks and utility work. Each totaled about $13,692, which was up $1,573 from a year ago. For the first three quarters of the year, $124,336 has been generated. That’s up about $5,891 from 2013.

An eighth-cent sales tax —used for debt repayment on a fire truck — totaled $6,846 for the month. In 2014, $62,043 has been collected. That’s up $2,820.
