A Licking man suspected in burglaries at multiple car washes – including two in Houston – was arrested late last week in Lake Ozark.
The Lake Ozark Police Department reported that Christopher R. Giller, 43, was arrested after a tip received by phone led to an investigation. According to a report, a woman driving past the Auto Magic Car Wash contacted police after she saw someone hiding in the shadows and acting suspiciously.
When officers arrived, they reportedly found a man dressed in camouflage and wearing black face paint, lying in the rear seat of a truck. Police discovered the car wash had been broken into, and the man – Giller – was arrested.
Giller later confessed to September burglaries at the Big Red Car Wash and Splish Splash Car Wash in Houston. Authorities said.
Including damaged or stolen equipment and swiped money, losses at the Big Red reportedly totaled more than $5,000.
Lake Ozark police determined that five similar car wash burglaries had occurred including one in Eldon and another in Eugene. When Giller’s vehicle was searched, a large set of keys was reportedly found, some of which fit machinery at the Eugene car wash, where damage was reported at about $10,000.
Houston Police Chief Jim McNiell said charges are being sought against Giller in the two local incidents.
