Houston senior Olivia Woosley makes contact in the first inning of Thursday's district semifinal against East Carter.

The Houston High School softball team will resume its attempt this afternoon to advance through the district tournament.

The semifinals of the Class 2 District 8, which were suspended by rain Thursday afternoon, begin at 2 p.m. Sunday. Houston will conclude the final inning of its semifinal with East Carter, followed by the other semifinal between Willow Springs and Neelyville.

What happens next depends on who advances to the championship game.

If Willow Springs wins, the title game will be played Sunday. If Neelyville wins, the championship will be Monday or Tuesday.

The Lady Tigers’ game will resume with Houston ahead 5-2 in the top of the seventh inning. Houston will have runners on first and third base with one out and leadoff hitter Autumn Walker at bat.

East Carter, which is the district’s top seed, is the home team and will have three outs to save its season.

The conclusion of the Lady Tigers’ game as well as the semifinal between Neelyville and Willow Springs will be streamed online at www.houstonherald.com/live.
