Vera Mae Stewart Dixon, 90, of Holts Summit, passed away Sunday, Oct. 12, 2014.

She was born Feb. 18, 1924, in Hannibal, daughter of Ray Lee and Sara Edna Tawney Stewart. She and Leonard Leon Nixon were married March 4, 1993.

She was baptized into Christ in 1955 and attended the Gospel Chapel Church of Christ near Licking for many years. When she moved to Holts Summit in 1996, she joined Capital

City Christian Church in Jefferson City. She attended as long as her health allowed.

She and her husband, Leonard, started their life together in Licking as farmers. She was later employed by Rawlings, where she worked for 10 years sewing and putting together baseballs. In 1978, she joined Licking Schools as a cook in the elementary school cafeteria. She retired in 1994.

She loved to travel. She visited Disney parks in both California and Florida. She traveled outside of the U.S. twice.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Mae; her parents; a granddaughter; three brothers, Roy, Fred and Bob Stewart; and a sister, Helen Taylor.

Survivors include three children, Bob Dixon of Wheatland, Darrell Dixon of Linn Creek and Delores Yamnitz of Jefferson City; three sisters, Roberta Dixon and Doris Anderson of Licking and Darline Webber of Rolla; nine grandchildren; 12 great-grandchildren; one great-great grandson; and many nieces, nephews and friends.

Services were Wednesday, Oct. 15, at Fox Funeral Home Chapel with her son-in-law, Larry Yamnitz, and granddaughter, Allison Hughes, serving as eulogists. Burial was in Williams Cemetery.
