A circuit judge has ordered additional restitution in a case involving Piney Township.

A former Piney Township official was ordered last week by a circuit judge to pay an additional $15,270 to taxpayers.

Circuit Judge William Hickle ordered Jackie Cooper to make the payment to the entity that maintains roads and bridges in the Houston area. Hickle said evidence showed Cooper illegally used a Shell credit card from 2007 to 2009 while serving as a township board official. He resigned in July 2012.

A year ago, Hickle ordered Cooper to pay $9,450 for credit cards charges made from 2010 to 2012.

In November 2013, Cooper entered a guilty plea to stealing, a felony, and was placed on probation for four years and ordered to complete 100 hours of community service and serve seven days in jail.

Charges against another former township official, Roger Martin, were dismissed by the judge in August.
