A community Christmas tree lighting — with other activities — is planned Saturday afternoon at Houston’s Lone Star Plaza.
Events organized by several in the community begin at 2 p.m. with songs and prayer. The tree, which is furnished by the U.S. Forest Service, is dedicated to the area’s military and veterans. Lighting was contributed by Houston Do-it Center, Walmart Supercenter and The Bank of Houston. Irene Dewitt also contributed ball ornaments.
Santa Claus will be at Memories and Dreams to visit with children after the tree lighting, courtesy of Edward Jones/Susan Steckler in Houston. Hot cider will be available from Country Seasons Catering and mini cupcakes will be provided by Two Old Gals Bakery. Tyrone resident Don Rutherford and his team of draft horses will provide stagecoach rides.
Participants are encouraged to bring a non-perishable food item for donation to the Texas County Food Pantry.
