Sales tax revenue was down in Houston during the latest monthly distribution.

Sales taxes collected by Houston merchants dropped by about 2 percent from a year ago, according to the latest monthly distribution by the Missouri Department of Revenue.

The total from a one-cent sales tax was $51,130, which was down $956 from 2013. For first 10 months of the year, $572,535 has been collected. That’s up about $27,611 from last year, which is about 5 percent.

Retailers also collect two, quarter-cent sales taxes for streets, sidewalks and utility work. Each contributed about $12,286 for the month. For the year, $136,623 has been collected on each. That’s up about $5,527 for each.

An eighth-cent sales tax — for debt repayment on a fire truck — totaled $6,143.
