Houston Schools band director Michael Roy selected six middle school students and one high school student to represent the district on their respective District Honor Bands.
Roy tabbed HHS freshman Grady Todd for the District High School Honor Band. Todd emerged from a head-to-head audition against students across the South Central Association conference, earning second chair, second band on bass clarinet. As a result, he will perform with the district ensemble on Jan. 17 at Springfield’s Central High School and will audition for the All State Honor Band Dec. 6 at David H. Hickman High School in Columbia.
The six members of the Houston Middle School band Roy named to the District Middle School Honor Band traveled Nov. 15 to Marshfield where they auditioned for chair placement and rehearsed to perform an afternoon concert. The group included Katch Crawford, John Shriver, Caroline Dill, Michael Washko, Taylor Buckner and Savannah Cope.
