Texas County was poised to be among counties leading the state in the fall firearms deer season, according to a tally from the Missouri Department of Conservation.
The season ends today after 11 days of hunting — often done under the threat of rain. Nonetheless, the final numbers are expected to show an increase in the deer kill statewide.
On Tuesday morning, Texas County was third in the state with a harvest of 3,046. The breakdown: Howell, 3,206, first; Franklin, 3,199, second; and Callaway, 2,956, fourth.
