Firefighters from the City of Houston and Houston Rural fire departments responded at about 6:30 p.m. Sunday to a fire that burned a shed at 413 Broadway St. in Houston.
City department assistant chief Jeremy St. John said the blaze began when residents were working on an ATV in the back of the wooden shed. St. John said in an attempt to start the vehicle, a flammable substance was poured into its carburetor. But the ATV backfired and a pan of fuel sitting on the ground nearby ignited.
“The shed went up in a hurry,” St. John said.
St. John said 10 city firefighters responded, along with one Houston Rural truck and crew. The Raymondville FD was put on standby, but didn’t need to respond.
St. John said another shed only a few feet away was undamaged.
