A Licking man threatened a county law officer Saturday with a knife Saturday, but eventually dropped the weapon as the lawmen drew his gun, authorities said.
A deputy was dispatched just after midnight regarding a report of a suicidal man at a Shipp Drive residence at Licking.
The officer reported that when he arrived he found the man, 55, standing in the doorway of a shed in the backyard, holding a large knife in his right hand. The officer stated he ordered the man to drop it, but the man instead started walking toward him.
The officer stated he then pointed his department issue pistol at the man and shouted for him to drop the knife, but the man kept moving toward him. The officer then repeated the command and the man obeyed, authorities said.
The man was taken to a Fulton institution for a 96-hour hold and a probable cause statement was sent to the county prosecutor seeking a felony charge against him of first-degree assault of a law enforcement officer and a lesser charge of failure to obey a deputy.
